Review your GitHub repositories

Here's how to review the code in your GitHub repositories with Hardn. (1:00)

All help topics

Step by step

The same steps as the video.

  1. 1

    Connect GitHub

Open Repositories and choose Connect GitHub. On GitHub, pick the repositories Hardn may read. It only ever gets read access.

Only an organisation owner or admin in Hardn can connect GitHub. On GitHub, choose the account or organisation, then pick the repositories Hardn may read (read-only: contents and metadata).

  2. 2

    Pick a repository

Back in Hardn, your repositories load straight away. Search for the one you want, and choose Add.

The list loads by itself and searches as you type. Private repositories show a lock.

  3. 3

    Choose an agent

Pick an agent. Baseline checks dependencies, secrets and config, and it's included in your plan. The AI agents read your code more deeply, and show their price up front.

Baseline (no AI) is included in your plan. Scout, Analyst and Expert add an AI review; the price is shown for the exact commit before you run.

  4. 4

    Run the review

Confirm the code is yours and run the review. Hardn reads a copy, and never changes your repository.

  5. 5

    Fix what it finds

You get a grade, and every issue with the file and line it's on, plus how to fix it. Run it again after each fix to track your progress.

Each issue links to the file and line on GitHub. Mark false positives on the repository's page so later reviews skip them.

If something goes wrong

A repository is missing from the list.
It isn't shared with the Hardn app yet. Choose “Choose which repositories Hardn can read on GitHub”, add it there, then Refresh the list.
GitHub says my organisation must approve the app.
GitHub sent a request to your organisation's owners. Once one approves, connect GitHub in Hardn again.
A review says GitHub is disconnected.
The GitHub connection that granted the repository was removed. An admin can connect GitHub again; nothing else is lost.
A repository shows “Not connected”.
It was added by URL before Hardn switched to GitHub connections. Remove it and add it again from your GitHub connection.
